Just to follow up on Jackie's e-mail: It would be AWESOME if
anyone wanted to row at Undine, or anywhere else this summer. You don't have to
row under a Shipley coach to get some great coaching (though we'd love to have
you!).
Summer is a GREAT time to learn some new skills or work
on old ones that you maybe didn't spend a lot of time on during the school
year. You can race or not - depending on the program you choose.
And best of all, there aren't massive biblical floods
every few weeks! Hurray!
In the case the Undine schedule doesn't work for you or
you're looking for something else (Undine did a lot of sweeping last year),
here are some more options:
Crescent Boat Club: (boys). http://crescentboatclub.org/rowing/summer-racing-2014/
They run at 6am which might work better for some people. All
summer through Canadian Henley; no travel otherwise. Exclusively sculling! Big
focus on racing.
Bachelors practices from 4-6 and is exclusively sculling as
well. They are not as focused on racing and do not travel.
Whitemarsh is in Conshohocken and so closer to most Shipley
families. They run both a racing and strictly recreational program, which might
be nice for those who have a lot of vacation planned or who need a break! Sweep
and scull. Both programs are held in the afternoons. Recreational rowing is
only three days a week - we highly encourage you to check out this option.
DO YOU KNOW A FAMILY WITH
A MIDDLE SCHOOLER OR RISING FRESHMAN WHO MIGHT WANT TO ROW?
Here are some great opportunities to try out the sport over
the summer. Please share with your friends and neighbors!
LEARN TO ROW:
Bachelors is a great place to learn to row down on boathouse
row. Summer-long program, offered from 10-12 OR 2-4.
Whitemarsh: http://whitemarshboatclub.com/youth-rowing/juniors/summer-2014/summer-2014-junior-learn-to-row-camps/
Whitemarsh offers a ton of one-week programs that are
designed for middle school and high school kids to learn how to row. These are
held as day-camps. Again, Whitemarsh is very close to Shipley and most of the
main line. This is a great option for
those who might just want to try it out and see if they like it - both middle
schoolers and high schoolers!
Any questions, feel free to
ask me (JD) or your child's coach. We will get this info up on the blog as well.
