Sights from Miami Beach

The rowers, coaches, and chaperones all hit our stride after landing in Miami Beach 3 1/2 days ago!As many of you know, the Mimosa Hotel is a smaller boutique hotel in an area known as Mid-beach.  Within 3 blocks we have many affordable eating options, a grocery store (Publix), and Walgreens for everything else.  To the south is South Beach, a spring break mecca, and to the North is Bal Harbor, a high-end shopping destination.  For our purposes mid-town is the perfect match.
Our pool has easy access to the beach and associated jogging path.  For cardio work-outs rowers safely run along the water front.   Our boathouse, Ronald W. Shane Center, is located across the main street (Collins Avenue).  After rigging the boats, the rowers have been able to get on the water every day.  Almost everyday...today's rain means no water time, so rowers headed one block north to the Beach Beauty gym for strength training.
As many of you may have heard, the municipality faced a loss of water pressure on Friday.  For all of us at the Mimosa, this meant no water for 24 hours!  The kids took this challenge in step.  Some of the girls found a inexpensive option for washing their hair at the nearby "Super Cuts", many "showered" poolside at the one working shower head on premise.  It was a chilly option, but everyone kept a positive attitude and got it done.  Water is back in full force, and I expect everyone will be more cognizant of  indoor plumbing's benefits when they return to Philadelphia!
In terms of evening happenings, as expected the kids have been ready for bed by 11:00pm, and some earlier.  We have seen small gatherings of rowers hanging by the pool, or staying in their rooms for movie nights.  They are a pleasant and respectful bunch of kids.
I hope to post more updates and pictures to keep.  Feel free to post any comments or questions below.
